Meredith’s Miracles is readying for its annual fish fry on Friday, and organizers say they need volunteers to help by baking goodies for the bake sale.

Executive Director Kylie Spears said the traditional fish fry includes catfish, cheese grits, French fries, coleslaw, hushpuppies, drink and dessert.

New this year is entertainment by the Southside Baptist Church Praise Band.

Spears said that the best part of the fish fry is the fellowship.

“It’s great to go out to dinner for a good cause, and get to visit with people of all ages,” she said. “We have a bunch of teenagers who volunteer with us lined up to help. And the food is wonderful. “

She said the timing of the event is calculated.

“We do this the first week of school, because by Friday, parents and teachers are exhausted, and don’t want to cook. They can get a plate to go home, or sit down and eat with us.”

Spears said they have volunteers in place for the event, but really need baked goods for the bake sale that is in conjunction.

Those wishing to donate a baked good are asked to text Spears at 334-427-5321.

The organization, which helps parents with non-medical expenses when children need out-of-town specialized care also has fundraisers such as a valentines store and Cookies with Characters.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students, and are available at Harold’s, CCB Community Bank and Meredith’s Miracles Thrift Shop. They also are available at the door.

The event is set for 5 until 8 p.m. on Fri., Aug. 9, at the Southside Baptist Church family life center.
