The No. 1 Andalusia Bulldogs will not take anything for granted tonight as they travel to face Thomasville.

Tuesday night, the Bulldogs (17-2, 5-0 in Class 4A, Area 3) clinched the area by defeating Hillcrest-Evergreen, 64-41.

Tonight, they will face a team that Andalusia coach Richard Robertson characterizes as “scary” in many ways.

“Thomasville is scary,” Robertson said. “They might get blown out tonight and might beat somebody they’re not supposed to beat the next night. They beat Sumter County last week and they’ve got a good basketball team.

“Then, they beat Clarke County this week and Clarke County is supposed to be the better team,” he said.

Robertson added that Thomasville has had time to grow and get better as a basketball team, which will make it even more difficult tonight.

“They’ve been young and inexperienced and now it’s the end of the season and so they’re growing by leaps and bounds,” he said. “They’re getting better and it’s the same thing I’ve talked about every year. “That’s my text at practice (Thursday) is what you’ve done in the past matters not, it’s what you’ve got to go do ahead of you. The season’s in front of us and not behind us.”

Robertson said he will not do anything different than what his team has normally done.

“I’m going to start off doing what we did before, but you’ve got to be prepared. You’ve got to get three or four options for what they will do,” Robertson said. “You’ve got to always have alternate plans until you get a feel for the game. I’m just like anyone else right now and I’m trying to figure out what they are going to do.

“The thing is we could end up playing them again in a couple of weeks and you don’t need to do something that can give them confidence that they can beat you even though we’ll be at home,” he said.

Robertson added there is no room for “failure” at this point in the season.

“We just are at the point now where we have no room for failure,” he said. “It doesn’t matter what you’ve done in the past, the season is in front of us. Now, the people that you’ve beaten handily have had time to get better and work on the things we’ve done to them and you don’t know what they’re going to try to do stop what you’ve done. You’ve got to prepare for the unexpected.”
