Andalusia moved to 10-0 on the season after its win over Pike County Tuesday night at home, 57-50.

The Bulldogs led in the first quarter, 15-9. Going into halftime, Andalusia held a 28-18 lead.

In the third quarter, Andalusia scored six points compared to Pike County’s 12, which made the score 34-30 in Andalusia’s favor.

“They did some things to us that evidently they’ve gotten in scouting reports,” Andalusia coach Richard Robertson said. “It was our doing. It was a lack of execution on our part. We had a 13-point lead and they kept fighting us and clawing us.

“We kept making mistakes and failed to execute our plan and then (Pike County) came back and tied the ball game up,” he said. “I’m proud that we responded in a positive way. I had already told them in meetings that from here on in, we’re going to have to make our own advantages.”

Robertson said his team will have to be making their own advantages because the schedule is about to get much tougher.

“Now everything is evening up and we’re fixing to play the meat part of our schedule form here on in,” he said. “Everything is going to be tough. This season starts right now as of (today) game wise.

“This season is one month over and two months from now, it’ll all be over. The thing is that they’ve got to keep getting better and not rest on their laurels.”

Despite being undefeated for the season, Robertson said there are mistakes that still need to be corrected.

“Like I said before, Andalusia has a target on their back and people are always going to try and knock us off,” Robertson said. “I don’t mind that, but what got me upset, the things that are happening to us, we’re doing to ourselves. People might not see that because we haven’t lost a game, but I see it coming. I’ve been fussing since day one because it has not been done necessarily right.”

Robertson said being ordinary is not going to cut it.

“You don’t want to be ordinary, you want to be exceptional and what I mean by that is if you have a job to do you have to do it,” he said. “That’s the way it is in life. We’ve got to execute our plan to the fullest. You don’t take a 20-point lead and do something foolish.”

On Friday night, Andalusia will travel and play Dothan. Robertson said it is going to be a tough game.

“I know they’re Dothan and it’s going to be tough,” Robertson said. “It’s always tough to play down there in Dothan. They’ve got a 6-foot-6 guy that I expect to give us some trouble. They’re going to probably press us and try to trap us.”

Leading scorers for Andalusia were Nico Johnson with 24 points and Brandon Sims with 15.

In earlier action Tuesday night, the Lady Bulldogs had little trouble with Pike County in their game, 64-12.

The Lady Bulldogs pulled ahead by 15 points in the first quarter and kept Pike County at bay only allowing one point in the second, four points in the third and two points in the fourth.

Leading scorers for the Lady Bulldogs were Anjelica White and Alexis Horton, who each had 10 points.

Play in Dothan starts Friday at 4 p.m. with the B-team boys.
