For those wanting an early taste of football, Straughn will play host to its sixth annual 7-on-7 tournament tomorrow at Tigers Stadium.

The tournament originally began with eight teams, but two pulled out for reasons beyond their control, SHS head football coach Trent Taylor said.

The teams participating in the tournament are Andalusia, Flomaton, Pleasant Home and Straughn.

“We’re going to throw it around a little bit,” Taylor said. “It’s an opportunity to have a little competition before the season gets here.

“From our stand point, your defense gets a whole lot of work,” he said.

The tournament will begin at 4 p.m. tomorrow, and each game will last 25 minutes on a running clock. Each team is guaranteed to play four games. The tournament will start out in pool play, and will transition to an elimination bracket.

Taylor said one of the “positives” of the tournament is that it will end a lot earlier than usual.

“If you’re getting fired up for football, it’s as close to the real thing as we can get,” he said.

Cost of admission is free, and concessions will be available.
