Local groups asked to help clean up county

It’s time to pull out those trash bags and clean up in the local community, members of the People Against A Littered State (PALS) said Tuesday.

Commissioners have proclaimed October and November as “Trash Bash” months, and PALS members Janice Castleberry and Jan White are asking area churches, civic groups and citizens to help pick up trash in their neighborhoods and roadsides.

Free trash bags are available at the Andalusia Chamber of Commerce, Castleberry said.

County Engineer Darren Capps said county workers have already begun the project. He said since June, 1,104 bags of garbage have been collected from the county’s roadsides – 250 of those in September.

“We ask that you don’t drop it on Covington County and if you see it laying (on the side of the road) then pick it up,” Castleberry said.
