After coming off a successful three-game win streak last week, the Red Level Tigers have been working hard since Monday for the Class 2A, Area 1 tournament that starts tonight in Red Level.

“We had a good closing week to the regular season last week and that gave us a big boost,” Red Level coach Fred Kelley said. “We’ve been practicing since Monday and trying to get prepared. Our kids are excited and our school is excited.”

Red Level (14-11) finished in as the top-seed with area opponents Mobile Christian and Flomaton at 4-2 in the area, which required a coin toss.

“First, we’re fortunate to win the coin toss to be at home,” Kelley said. “I think that is a plus. The second, is that our area is so balanced and it’s has shown that way throughout the year.”

Tonight, Red Level will face Excel at 7 in its first round of the tournament.

“We’ve played Excel twice and have come from behind to beat them,” Kelley said. “There is no guarantee of tomorrow in the tournament. I think we have got a chance to win (tonight).”
