RLS falls at buzzer

J.F. Shields beat Red Level on a buzzer beater Friday night at RLS.

Tigers’ guard KJ Lawrence tied the game at 39-39 with a pair of free throws.

Shields held the ball on its next possession and called a timeout with 10 seconds left in the game.

After the timeout, the Panthers laid in two points right before the buzzer to get the 41-39 win.

“I’m proud of how hard our boys played,” RLS coach Allen Catrett said. “They fought back. we just got to fix a few mistakes.”

On the night, the Tigers were 12-of-21 from the foul line.

RLS led 7-5 after the first period, and J.F. Shields took a 19-14 lead at halftime.

The game was tight in the third period as J.F. Sheilds outscored RLS 12-11.

Lawrence led RLS with 18 points. Spencer Stallworth added 12 points. Justin Maddox had six points and Dee Tolbert had three points.

RLS falls to 15-11 overall, and 3-4 in Class 1A, Area 3.

In B-team action, Red Level fell 40-34 in overtime.

The Tigers will host Georgiana on Monday to finish out regular season area play.
