An Andalusia woman has been arrested for driving under the influence after she struck an unoccupied Opp Police Department vehicle in front of the municipal complex Thursday morning.

Dana M. Elliot, 59, of Andalusia, was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure to make sure that she was alright, OPD Chief Mike McDonald said.

In addition to the patrol vehicle, a brown Chevrolet Impala was struck in the incident.

McDonald, who was supervising the scene of the incident, said all of this started when the department received a call about a lady driving erratically on Hwy. 84.

“She struck a no parking sign at the Tomb Thumb store on West Cummings (Avenue), from which the people were calling,” McDonald said. “The officer turned around on her on West Cummings and was going to stop her when she hit the parked patrol vehicle and then hit the vehicle down here.

“There was not an officer in the patrol vehicle at the time of the incident,” he said.

Officers performed a field sobriety test on Elliot, who was driving a Ford Ranger pickup truck, on which she performed “poorly,” McDonald said.

The call into dispatch came in at around 9:30 a.m., and the investigation is still pending.
