Pleasant Home’s Lady Eagles finished runner up at the 30th annual Amelia Rhodes Volleyball Tournament at Kinston on Saturday.

PHS beat Kinston 25-21, 25-13 in bracket play, where they advanced to face New Brockton in the semifinals.

NBHS won the first game, 21-25 over PHS, but the Lady Eagles bounced back to win game two to force a game-three tiebreaker.

The Lady Gamecocks prevailed, winning the final set, 15-10.

PHS volleyball coach Jerry Davis said the girls played well, noting that the girls didn’t miss but 10 serves in five matches.

“We served real well all day,” Davis said.

In pool play action, the Lady Eagles went 2-1, beating Carroll-Ozark 21-25, 25-22, 15-7; Zion Chapel 25-20, 25-17; and falling to NBHS 19-25, 18-25.

“New Brockton is really good,” Davis said. “We pretty much can hit all the way across our front line.”

Davis said the girls also did a good job of keeping the ball off the ground all day.

In other tournament action, Opp beat Charles Henderson, but fell to Kinston and Brantley in pool play.

PHS improves to 6-2 on the season and will host Red Level today in area action.
