Red Level outlasts Elba

The Red Level Lady Tigers defeated the Elba Lady Tigers, 57-53 ,Tuesday afternoon in Straughn.

 

Elba came out shooting strong, and pulled out to a 17-9 lead at the end of the first period.

 

In the second period, Red Level combined good defense with good shooting to take a 26-24 lead into half time. Kayla Hinson grabbed a couple of steals in the second period to really get her team going.

 

“Anytime we get a win we are happy,” Red Level coach Allen Catrett said.

 

The game remained close in the third period. Red Level held the lead for most of the period, but Elba led for a little while, following a few big three point shots. Red Level led 40-39 heading in the fourth period.

 

Red Level stepped up on defense in the fourth period, and scored enough to hold off Elba for the win at 57-53.

 

“We have improved a lot from where we were at this point last year,” Catrett said. “That is a testament to the hard work and dedication these girls have. I’m very proud of the hustle and hard work.”

 

Red Level’s Hinson led all scorers with 26 points. Shelby Holley accounted for 22 points for Red Level.

 

Elba’s scoring leader was A’ Jaspin Whitefield with 23 points.
