After falling behind in the first half, the Pleasant Home Eagles used a big second half to top the Florala Wildcats 62-47 Tuesday night in the opening round of the Class 1A, Area 2 tournament.

The Eagles came storming out of the gate in the opening period and quickly mounted a 14-4 lead.

Florala wasn’t going to let the early deficit deter them in the slightest.

The Wildcats trimmed the lead to open the second period, but Robert Scott then put the Eagles up by 10 points with a 3-pointer.

Lane Craig got a rally started for the Wildcats with a 3-pointer, and a few plays later Trey Burleson came up with a steal that he turned into a layup to leave Florala trailing 20-19.

A pair of free throws from Walt Weaver put Pleasant Home up 22-19.

Shaun White then knotted the game at 22-22 with a big 3-pointer near the end of the first half.

Florala took the lead when White grabbed a long offensive rebound and fired it back up for a buzzer beater.

At halftime, Florala held a 24-22 lead.

Pleasant Home took the lead back in the third period when Chase Gunter knocked down a 3-pointer to put the Eagles up 27-26.

Scott then buried a 3-pointer and followed with a fast-break layup to put Pleasant Home up 32-26.

Pleasant Home lead 41-33 at the end of the third period.

The Eagles went on to hit 13-of-16 free throws in the fourth period to help lead them to the win.

Scott led the Eagles with 23 points and Gunter added 12 points.

“I thought we started strong, but we slacked off a bit there in the second period.” Pleasant Home head coach Troy Turman said. “We lost focus a little bit, but give Florala credit. They played a great game. At halftime, we challenged the kids to take over like we knew we could.”

White led the Wildcats with 16 points.

“I thought we played great,” Wildcats’ head coach Troy Stewart said. “We had a good game plan, but we had too many fouls called against us. I thought we executed our game plan well, but you can’t do much when everything is getting call on you. Overall, I was happy with how we played.”

Pleasant Home will take on Brantley Thursday at 7 p.m., for Class 1A, Area 2 championship.
