Pleasant Home will hold its third annual Alabama-Florida Shootout on Jan. 2-3, 2009, to get ready for upcoming area play.

In addition to PHS, Florala will play in the tournament along with two teams from Florida – Rocky Bayou and Baker.

The tournament takes place only a few days before the important area play begins for each school and according to Pleasant Home coach Jerry Davis, it provides a good “gauge” to see what needs improving.

“These teams are mighty good and it’ll give us a good gauge of what we have to do,” Davis said. “The next week we start area play for both us and Florala and then we’ll know who are the seeds in our area.”

Davis said the tournament was conceived two years ago to give something for both teams to prepare for area play.

“Most tournaments are finishing up right before that,” he said. “Florala got tired of doing their tournament and I said I would take over doing it as far as getting something going on those dates.

“So, we worked it out and invited two teams from Florida,” he said.
