Andalusia girls win area championship

The Andalusia Lady Bulldogs won the Class 4A, Area 3 championship Saturday night over Thomasville, 53-46.
Thomasville led after the first quarter 12-10, but Andalusia picked up the pace to take a 25-21 lead at halftime.
The Lady Bulldogs kept their defensive front up through the rest of the game as they led 35-31 after the third quarter.
“We played a good defensive game,” Andalusia girls coach Bennie Shellhouse said. “We rebounded well tonight.”
Alexis Horton led Andalusia with 18 points. Erica King added 16 and Shi’Amber Townsend had 12. Amber Anderson chipped in seven.
Andalusia (22-5) will host the Class 4A South Sub-Regional tournament next Thurs., Feb. 11 at 7 p.m.
The Lady Bulldogs will play the runner-up of the Class 4A, Area 1 tournament. The Class 4A, Area 1 championship game will be played on Monday night between UMS-Wright and Jackson at 5:30.
