Andalusia, Straughn boys earn area wins Thursday

Andalusia and Straughn picked up area road wins Thursday night. The Bulldogs beat Hillcrest-Evergreen 16-0 and the Tigers beat Luverne, 9-3.

Andalusia 16, Hillcrest 0

Andalusia scored seven runs in the third inning Thursday night in Evergreen, as the Bulldogs beat area opponent Hillcrest-Evergreen 16-0 in five innings.

Zack Ward earned the win for the Bulldogs on the mound.

Ward had three hits; Shane Culbreth and Lee Enzor had two hits each; Dilan Manring, Jay Brewer, Aaron Norris and Rob Maddox all had one hit each.

“We did a good job,” Andalusia coach Jonathan Rasberry said. “It took a little bit to adjust to the pitching, but we sat back and got it going. We scored two in the first inning and one in the second before scoring seven in the third. That was really big.”

Andalusia (9-14, 1-0 in Class 4A, Area 3) will continue its series with Hillcrest-Evergreen tonight in a doubleheader at 4 p.m.

Straughn 9, Luverne 3

The Tigers improved to 20-3 on the season and will host Central-Hayneville next Monday in a doubleheader at 4:30 p.m.

Straughn’s Nick Allen earned the win on the mound in three innings of work.

Josh Dewrell got the save, striking out two.

Zack Stinson started the game for the Tigers pitching two innings and Cody Hughes stepped in with three innings of his own, allowing no runs.
