SHS, PHS girls win regional title

GULF SHORES – Straughn and Pleasant Home claimed the Class 3A, and Class 1A South Regional Tournament title tonight at the Gulf Shores Sports Complex.
The Lady Tigers defeated Headland 3-0, and the Lady Eagles beat Ariton 8-2 in the winner’s bracket championship game.
Earlier today, Pleasant Home beat top-ranked Kinston 1-0 in the winner’s bracket elimination game to earn the right to play in the state tournament next week.
Straughn started today with a 3-2 defeat over Luverne to earn its ticket to the state tournament.
Straughn’s Kaitlynn Wiggins and Pleasant Home’s Emily Byrd were selected as the regional tournament most valuable players.
