Cody McCain has been selected to take the helm of the Pleasant Home baseball program this year.

McCain replaces Bradley Stephens, who will take over as the softball coach for the Lady Eagles.

When asked what he thought about taking over a program that has made an appearance in the playoffs two years in a row, McCain said he hopes to continue that success.

“I think coach Stephens had pretty good success last year, so we’re just going to try to continue going forward with that,” he said. “We changed areas this year. We’ve got McKenzie and Brantley this year. Brantley’s going to be a pretty tough team area wise. Hopefully, we can at least make the playoffs and see what we can do when we get there.”

McCain has been on staff at PHS since last summer, where he has helped with the football program under coach Robert Bradford. This fall, he will also help coach basketball.

When PHS prinicipal Craig Nichols asked him to take over the baseball program, McCain said he was a little “surprised.”

“I was pretty surprised I guess you could say,” McCain said. “When I came over here (from Excel), I just told him whatever area you need me to help him out in, I’d be willing to help out there.

“When they decided to move coach Stephens over to softball, he went ahead and asked me to do baseball, and I told him I would,” he said.

This will be McCain’s first year coaching baseball.

“It’s a good time to start,” he said.
