Class 4A sixth-ranked Straughn only needed one run to beat Class 6A Enterprise Monday night.

The Lady Tigers and Lady Wildcats sparred for three full innings before the lone run for Straughn came across the plate in the bottom of the fourth inning.

“You expect somebody to step up when things are like that,” SHS head softball coach Ray Wilson said about the game.

Kaitlynn Wiggins, who got the save for Straughn on the mound, led off with a single, and Katie Beck then hit a sac-bunt to advance Wiggins to second base.

Katy Messick hit a single in between first and second, and Enterprise’s second baseman threw a wild throw to first to allow Wiggins to score on the error.

Paige Caraway threw four innings, allowed three hits and struck out five.

Wiggins struck out three and allowed one hit for the save.

The Lady Tigers improve to 15-4 overall, and are 2-1 in Class 4A, Area 3.

Straughn’s next match up for both varsity and junior varsity will be at the Spring Fling tournament at the Andalusia Sports Complex this weekend.
