Approximately 2,200 customers were without power in Covington County early Saturday morning after a storm system moved through the area, clipping power poles and downing lines.
Mark Parker, vice president of member relations for Covington Electric Cooperative, said CEC had approximately 2,000 customers system wide who were without power during the storm. All power was restored by approximately 1 p.m. on Saturday to the electric services who could take power.
Andalusia Utilities sustained less damage and had about 200 customers lose power around 12:30 a.m. Electric system manager Jeff Puckett said power was restored to about 75 percent of those within an hour and a half. Power was fully restored to city customers by 5:30 a.m.
Most of the damage, Puckett said, was on the Southern Bypass where both Andalusia Utilities and CEC have power lines.
