Members of the South Alabama host team for the 12U World Series finished third in the event, after losing to Lodi, Calif., Tuesday morning. After a five-hour rain delay, with an unexpected second game needed for the finals, officials paused between games to give members of the home team their trophies. After all, they had to go to school this morning. After accepting third place trophies, one of the team members quipped, “But we’ll always be No. 1 in our hearts.” Team members included McKenzie Ladson, Sarah Langford, Hayden Willis, Colby Adams, Tiffani Dean, Katlynn Schively, Cassie Godwin, Aaliyah Lawrence, Molly Stewart, Brentley Armstrong, Derriaunna Gantt, Bailee Boyd, Abby Walker, Hope Ladson, Taylor McGhee and Santana Hamrac. Candace Tucker, Cassie Newman and Shanda Osborn were their coaches.
