The sixth annual LBWCC Camelia City Classic golf tournament at Cambrian Ridge in Greenville on Wednesday helped raise more than $20,000 for the community college’s foundation scholarship programs.

Twenty-two teams of four played in the event in Greenville, where people from Montgomery and Andalusia took part, LBWCC President Dr. Herbert Riedel said.

“We were very pleased with the turn out and the support,” Riedel said. “We just have had so many supporters and sponsors for this program.”

Riedel said the funds raised will go to support the students and activities on the Greenville campus.

Bert Estes, Mike Martin, Chip Hill and Bubba Walker were first place winners; Randy Meeks, Billy Bimbo, Ricky Smith and Michael Smith were second place winners; Leham Tucker, Norris Harris and Greg Jones of Florence were third place winners; and Steve McGhee won the award for closest to the pin, and Smith won the award for the longest drive.

State dignitaries, sponsors, business and industry representatives were also at the golf tournament, Riedel said.

“We’re looking forward to next year,” Riedel said. “We’ve already started planning.”
