Red Level’s alumni football game was such a big success in August that the school will hold an alumni basketball tournament next Sat., Nov. 12, at the Jimmy Prestwood Gym at RLS.

“We had an alumni football game in August, and we had such a good time doing that we decided to try it for basketball, too,” tournament organizer Dawn Kelley said.

The tournament will be held to help raise money for the basketball program at RLS, and the money will go toward uniforms, travel costs and “redoing” the floor, Kelley said.

The cost to play in the tournament is $5 per player, and $3 admission for those who just want to watch.

Registration will be from 9 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. the morning of the tournament. The tournament kicks off at 9:30 a.m., and those interested can register the day of the tournament or earlier.

Kelley said right now, the tournament has two alumni women’s teams, and about four men’s teams already signed up.

“They’ll play each other, and once done, the varsity boys basketball team will play the No. 1 and No. 2 teams (from the men’s pool), and the varsity girls will play the women’s alumni winner,” she said.

Concessions will be available at the tournament.

To register early, or for more information, contact Kelley at 469-5315 ext. 105, or via email at dawn.kelley@cov.k12.al.us.

“If any alumni come the day of the tournament, and want to play and don’t have a team, we’ll put them on a team that day,” Kelley said.
