Three Red Level Tigers scored in double digits Thursday night in a 59-25 rout over Zion Chapel in area action at RLHS.
KJ Lawrence led all Tigers with 12 points, and Dee Tolbert and Raheem Bullock chipped in 11 points each in a game where RLS opened the game up in the second period. The Tigers outscored the Rebels 14-3 in the second period after a 22-9 start in the first period to lead 36-12 at half time.
“We had a good effort from everybody,” RLS coach Allen Catrett said. “I learned a lot of things from the game that we need to work on.”
Catrett said an area the team will need to shore up before tonight’s area contest at Samson is that of “finishing shots.”
“We had a lot of good looks that we didn’t finish,” he said. “Some of our offensive sets toward the end of the ball game never finished out. We need to look at that.”
The Tigers’ strong inside game and defensive pressure caved the Rebels’ progress throughout the contest.
RLS (11-7, 1-0 in Class 2A, Area 2) dominated in the second half, outscoring the Rebels 19-4 in the third period, before a 9-4 performance in the fourth period, which was what Catrett was referring to when the team didn’t finish on the offensive end at times.
Troy Nolen also had a good night for the Tigers, chipping in nine points. Justin Maddox had five points.
In B-team action, RLS beat ZCHS 32-22.
Red Level’s Lady Tigers hung in with the Lady Rebels in the first half, but turn overs plagued their try for a second win of the season.
ZCHS beat the Lady Tigers 41-36.
“We kind of let the third period kill us,” RLS girls coach Delores Douglas said. “We had too many turn overs.”
The Lady Tigers trailed throughout the game, but only by single digits.
RLS trailed 12-8 after the first period, and 17-16 at half time.
The Lady Rebels outscored the Lady Tigers 13-5 in the third period.
RLS came back to put up a 15-11 run in the fourth period.
Brandi Hendrix led the Lady Tigers with 14 points. Shelby Holley and Hannah Colvin had six points each.
Red Level will visit Samson tonight, where tip off will be at 4:30 with the B-team.
