Red Level needed an area win over Elba on Friday night to have the right to host the Class 2A, Area 2 tournament in more than a week.

That didn’t happen as Elba’s Jake Carnley and Kobe Goosby combined for 54 points to help lead their team to a 65-50 area win over RLS.

“No surprise there,” RLS coach Allen Catrett said about Carnley and Goosby’s performance. “We played from behind all night, and we didn’t stop the penetration like we should have.”

RLS trailed 15-13 after the first period and 29-20 at half time.

EHS and RLS were even at 14-14 in the third period.

Red Level’s Raheem Bullock led with 14 points; James Feagin had 12 points; and KJ Lawrence had 11 points.

RLS falls to 17-9 overall, and 7-1 in the area.

Since Elba won, the teams had to do a coin flip, and EHS won the toss to win the right to host the area tournament.

Carnley led EHS with 28 points, and Goosby chipped in 26.
