Pleasant Home’s Lance Davis hit a 15-footer at the buzzer in overtime to help lift the Eagles to a 50-48 victory over G.W. Long on Friday night.

“It was a good rebound win after (Thursday night’s loss to Straugh),” PHS coach Jerry Davis said. “We had a great crowd here for senior night. It was a good way to go into the weekend, and hopefully next week.”

It was 44-44 at the end of regulation, and PHS hit 14-of-17 free throws in the win.

“We hadn’t shot them very well,” Davis said. “We put a lot of time the last two weeks into it, and it paid off (Friday night).”

The game was tied 21-all at half time, and the Eagles were down by four points heading into the fourth period.

Jeffrey Slaughter and Kaleb Powell had 13 points each to lead PHS. Josh O’Neal had nine points.

Pleasant Home improves to 18-7 on the season.

In girls action, the Lady Eagles beat G.W. Long 54-33.

The Lady Eagles led 10-8 after the first period, 23-13 at half time and 43-28 at the end of the third period.

Raven Woods and Emily Byrd led the Lady Eagles with 15 points each; Taylor Godwin chipped in nine points; and Ashley Williamson had eight points.

“We turned up the defensive pressure in the second and third period, and got several turn overs and points in transition,” PHS coach Kelley Garner said. “It was a great finish to a very busy week winning on senior night.”

The Lady Eagles are 13-5 on the season.

Pleasant Home’s boys and girls will host the Class 1A, Area 2 tournament, beginning next Friday. PHS will play Kinston — the girls at 6 p.m. and the boys at 7:30 p.m. — on the same night.
