BIRMINGHAM — The A state 4A women’s basketball finals  – in which Andalusia High School will face Jacksonville – have been postponed until noon tomorrow,  the Alabama High School Athletic Association has announced.

The AHSAA  postponed the Final 48 basketball tournament at the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center after the 3:30 p.m. Class 2A girls final between Section and Red Bay today, Fri., March 2.

The threat of severe weather and the advice from the National Weather Service led AHSAA executive director Steve Savarese to make the decision. Games will begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday and push the rest of the schedule back by 2-3 hours.

“They’re saying we’ll have possibly three waves of bad weather, with the worst after (8 p.m.),” Savarese said. “We have all of the teams here. What we’re doing for all of our teams – win or lose – we’re providing them the opportunity to stay here in a safe environment and not have to travel. We will cover the expenses of those teams to stay here.”
