PHS girls win KLD tourney

Pleasant Home beat Straughn 10-2 in the championship game to win the eighth annual Kirsten L. Dean Memorial Softball Tournament last night.
The Lady Eagles coursed their way through the loser’s bracket, defeating Kinston 8-0, Andalusia 10-2 and Opp 4-3, after coming back from a 3-0 deficit to the Lady Bobcats, in the lower bracket championship game.
Pleasant Home won the first championship game 3-1 to force the second title game.
The story of the day, however, was the host team.
Straughn beat rival Andalusia 7-3 to claim its first win of the season, and turned right around to beat Kinston 9-2 to hand KHS its first loss of the season.
SHS then went on to beat Pleasant Home 6-4 in a tie-breaker victory in the winner’s bracket semifinals.
