Red Level falls to New Brockton, 2-1 Monday

Behind a strong defense, Red Level couldn’t get its bats going Monday afternoon in a 2-1 area loss to New Brockton at the Hammett-Holley Sports Complex.

The Tigers out-hit the Gamecocks 7-5, but allowed one run to score on its their only error in the first inning.

“That’s the difference in the game,” RLS coach Tony Ingram said about the error. “Defensively, we did well. We just were out of sync. That’s due to us being out of our routine.

“We’re out of school (for spring break),” he said. “We had prom Friday night. We’ve got to get back into a routine. All of it means is that we’ve got to try and beat them twice (today).”

RLS was riding a four-game win streak going into yesterday’s area contest. The Tigers are now 3-3 in Class 2A, Area 2. RLS has won six games this season.

New Brockton’s Jordan Jones struck out seven and allowed one earned run on the Tigers’ seven hits for the win on the mound.

Additionally, Jones’ courtesy runners scored the Gamecocks’ two runs in the first and fourth innings.

New Brockton got on board in the first inning when courtesy runner Easton Waters scored on a throwing error.

Red Level tied the game back up when Troy Grissett got an RBI on a walk to score Jordan Walker.

New Brockton scored its game-winning run in the fourth on an RBI single from Shay Hobbs that scored courtesy runner Jordan Holloway.

The Tigers had plenty of scoring opportunities in the game, but left seven runners on base.

Troy Nolen led RLS and went 2-for-4 with a double and a single; Raheem Bullock went 1-for-4 with a single; Matt Nolen went 1-for-3 with a single; Cody Marler went 1-for-3 with a single; Hayden Dubose went 1-for-2 with a single; and Caleb Varner went 1-for-3 with a single.

Jones, Aubrey Bryant, Hobbs, Triston Brust and Brock Dunaway had one hit each for New Brockton.

Walker gave up one earned run on five hits, walked one and struck out seven in the loss.

Red Level will visit NBHS today for a doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m.

“We’re very capable of beating that team,” Ingram said about the Gamecocks. “We were just very out of sync at the plate. We were off balance.

“We’ll gas up and get them tomorrow,” he said.
