Lady Eagles annual tourney begins today

Five local teams will participate in Pleasant Home’s annual softball tournament, which begins today.

PHS, Florala, Straughn, Opp and Andalusia will compete for a top seed with Kinston, Flomaton and Brantley in pool play today and Friday leading into Saturday’s single elimination round.

Pleasant Home and Florala are in Pool A with Kinston and Brantley; Straughn, Opp and Andalusia are in Pool B with Flomaton.

“I feel like we have some good competition as far as what will take place the first two nights,” PHS coach Bradley Stephens said. “From there, we’ll see where it goes.”

In today’s action, Straughn plays Andalusia at 3 p.m.; Andalusia plays Flomaton at 4:30; Flomaton plays Opp at 6 p.m; and Opp plays Straughn at 7:30 p.m.

On Friday, Pleasant Home plays Florala at 3 p.m.; Florala plays Brantley at 4:30 p.m.; Brantley plays Kinston at 6 p.m.; and Kinston plays Pleasant Home in the night cap at 7:30.

Saturday’s single elimination round begins at 8 a.m. with the No. 2 seed of Pool A playing the No. 3 seed of Pool B. Then, at 9:30 a.m., the No. 3 seed of Pool A will face the No. 2 seed of Pool B.

The No. 1 seed of each pool will play the No. 4 seed at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., respectively.

The semifinals are at 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. The championship is slated for 5 p.m.
