The torrential downpour that fell on Covington County Tuesday was courtesy of Hurricane Isaac and could have lingering effects today, said county emergency manager Susan Harris.

The rains, which began early Tuesday morning and continued throughout the day, prompted weather officials to issue a flash flood warning.

The National Weather Service predicted the weather should weaken today.

Public reports and radar rainfall estimates indicate that 3 to 6 inches of rain, with isolated amounts of 7 to 8 inches have already fallen across locations along a Camden, Greenville and Andalusia line Tuesday morning.

Harris said as of early afternoon, the only road issues in the county were in Opp, where water covered some city streets. She said no damage was reported.

Glen Padgett of Andalusia reported 4.5 inches of rain at his home, while Paula Foley Cooper reported a total of more than 5 inches “and climbing” just before 3 p.m.
