PHS wins CCYAA tourney

Pleasant Home took first-place honors at the Covington County Youth Archery Association’s opening tournament on Sunday at Friendship Range.

The Eagles finished with 541 points and won $100 in prize money.

Andalusia came in a close second place with 534 points and won $75. Straughn and Red Level rounded out the top four in third and fourth place with scores of 518 and 457, respectively.

Additionally, there were individual winners in each division.

In Division 1, Pleasant Home’s Garrett Barton (152 points) finished in first place; Andalusia’s Will Jones (143) finished second; and Straughn’s Taylor Cobb (140) finished third.

In Division 2, Red Level’s Dalton Myers (131) finished in first place; Pleasant Home’s Tyler Myrick (119) finished second; and Pleasant Home’s Grant Barton (118) finished third.

In Division 3, Pleasant Home’s Payton Woodyard (136) finished in first place; Andalusia’s Hayden Jackson (132) finished second; and Pleasant Home’s Branson Johnson (125) finished third.

For the CCYAA’s first tournament, there were 50 shooters who participated.

Coaches are Daniel Bulger for Andalusia; Deputy Joe Snyder for Pleasant Home; Barry Wood for Red Level; and Paul Norris for Straughn.

Students from Fleeta, Florala and Opp are welcome to join the CCYAA. However, the association is still searching for team coaches for those school districts.
