Pleasant Home’s Lady Eagles will begin their 2013 volleyball campaign tomorrow night against Red Level.

The Lady Eagles lost a plethora of seniors from last year’s team to graduation.

Davis said there is one returning starter from last year’s team who is playing at setter in sophomore Ashley Williamson.

When asked what his thoughts are on the season Davis said there’s an awful big gap to fill without the corps group of girls who have been on the team since the program’s birth.

“It’s been kind of like everything around here for the last three or four years,” the coach said. “The seniors are the one group that’s carried us through. We pretty much depend on bunch of young girls right now.

“I think we’ve got some decent athletes,” he said.

The Lady Eagles are competing in Class 1A, Area 2 with Florala and Kinston again this season. PHS made it as far as the South Super Regional in 2012.

Davis said there are a number of girls who have had good preseasons and are battling for spots on the court.

Anna Bulger is Pleasant Home’s other setter. Johnnie Forehand and Cassidy Godwin will be hitters.

Brianna Dozier had surgery recently and will be back in about two weeks. Jade Self and Allison O’Neal had good preseasons, and Krissie Herman will eventually play at libero, Davis said.

In the back row, Mallory Smithart and Shelby Nixon are battling for a starting spot.
