The Pleasant Home Eagles varsity boys fell to the Zion Chapel Rebels 54-42 in the first round of the 2014 Straughn High School Christmas tournament.

The Eagles jumped out front 9-7 after the first period, but never led again in the game.

The Rebels were on fire in the second period scoring 19 points. At half time, the Eagles trailed 26-16.

The Eagles closed the gap in the third period thanks to solid efforts from Troy Fantroy and Alex Myrick. Fantroy had 5 points in the period, including a big 3-pointer. Myrick added 6 points for the Eagles, and was 2-for-3 on free throws.

The Rebels shut the door on the Eagles in the fourth period thanks to Larry Carnley, who went 6-for-6 from the free throw line to seal the Rebels victory. Carnley led the Rebels with 18 points.

The Eagles were led in scoring by Fantroy with 15 points, and Myrick accounted for 10 points.

“We aren’t playing like a team right now,” Eagles head coach Troy Turman said. “We’ve gotten rattled the past few days, and can’t seem to get it going. We need to get our confidence back.”

The Eagles will play today at 4 p.m., against the loser of the Straughn vs. Red Level game Thursday. The game was not final at press time.

The winner of the Straughn vs. Red Level game will play Zion Chapel at 8:30 p.m. All games will be played at the Straughn High School gymnasium.
