Lady Eagles win regular season area crown

The Pleasant Home Lady Eagles jumped on the McKenzie Lady Tigers early, and never let up for an 11-1 victory to win the regular season Class 1A, Area 2 championship.

Tiffany Knoll started in the pitching circle for the Lady Eagles, and only gave up three hits and one run in the contest.

Senior Jade Self got on base first for the Lady Eagles with one out in the bottom of the first. Self stole second then took third on passed ball before scoring on passed ball a few pitches later.

Cassidy Godwin drove the Lady Eagles’ second run with a run scoring single, and Abby Walker gave the Lady Eagles a 3-0 lead with a RBI double.

MHS got its of run contest off an error in the top of the second with two outs that should have ended the inning.

In the bottom of the second, Anna Bulger got the run back for the Lady Eagles with a single that drove in Self from third base.

The Lady Eagles continued to pour on the runs in the bottom of the third when Godwin scored on a sacrifice bunt from Bella Worley. Walker also scored on the play when the Lady Tigers’ first baseman missed the throw from the pitcher.

Knoll got down a bunt single that scored Worley to give the Lady Eagles a 7-1 advantage.

Bulger put the Lady Eagles up 8-1 with a single that plated Knoll from second.

Knull sat down the Lady Tigers in order in the top of the fourth inning.

Godwin reached on double to start the bottom of the fourth, and Knoll drove her in with a single a few batters later.

The Lady Eagles got another run in the bottom of the fifth when Self stole home to go up 10-1.

In the bottom of the sixth, Walker drove in the final run of the game when she plated Godwin from third for an 11-1 win.

Godwin led the Lady Eagles at the plate going 3-for-3 with a walk, one RBI and four runs scored. Bulger finished with two RBIs and was 2-for-4 at the plate.

“Always thankful for a win,” Lady Eagles’ head coach Jessica Gibson said. “But we aren’t satisfied. We have a lot to improve on. We hit the ball well today. Cassidy Godwin and Anna Bulger each had a really good day at the plate, and Tiffany Knoll did a great job pitching.”
