‘Black Friday’ sales start today

Local retailers were in full blast Wednesday preparing for the biggest shopping day of the year.

Retailers JCPenney and Goody’s have been preparing for weeks for the big day.

“Right now, we are making sure our stock is out and that we have adequate staff,” said Goody’s Assistant Manager Kayla Ison.

Goody’s corporate officials set a goal of $26,000 for the three-day shopping event.

The will open from 2 p.m., until 1 a.m., today and then will reopen at 6 a.m. Black Friday.

JCPenney officials said they were expecting high volumes of traffic as well.

They began Black Friday sales yesterday and will open at 3 p.m. today and will be open until 9 p.m., tomorrow, Supervisor Chris Everage said.

Cato’s has already started select sales, but will open Black Friday from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m., and will be closed on Thanksgiving, store manager Nicole Julian said.

Maurices will open at 8 a.m., Black Friday, while The Shoe Department will be open at 7 a.m.

Sears Hometown Store will open at 6 p.m., today and close at 11 p.m., and Friday from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Walmart sales start at 6 p.m., today.
