Wiregrass Federal Credit Union started a new program in 2015 in which it honors and rewards an elementary teacher in Covington County.

This annual event is called Teacher MagnifiCENTS.

They recently chose Lynn Starnes, first grade teacher at Andalusia Elementary School, as the recipient.

Lynsey Williams, marketing director and member associate for Wiregrass Federal Credit Union, said the program works by sending information to all of the Covington County elementary schools, letting students know about the contest and how to partake.

“Students and parents are asked to stop by Wiregrass FCU and vote for their favorite elementary teacher,” Williams said. “We then designate an end date and do a drawing to determine the winner.”

Williams said the more votes a teacher gets, the better his or her chance to win.

“The winning teacher receives $500 classroom dollars,” she said. “We plan to continue this event each year, starting in September and running through December.”
