Eighty-seven huge slithering Eastern diamondback rattlesnakes are on hand at Opp City Hall for this year’s Rattlesnake Rodeo.

Don Childre said that 60 rattlesnakes were turned in this week.

That’s a stark contrast from 2013, when no snakes had been found five weeks before the rodeo.

Childre said that he’s down to about three or so folks who catch the snakes for the rodeo.

In the early days of the rodeo, there were 300 to 400 snakes, but since the city has taken over the rodeo, it typically exhibits about 40 snakes.

This year’s rodeo is set for April 1 and April 2 at Channell-Lee Stadium.

On Friday night, country artists John Anderson, Sammy Kershaw and Aaron Tippin will be the featured acts.

For Saturday’s entertainment, Chris Tomlin, Tim Timmons, Ellie Halcomb and 3for3 will rock the stage.

Tickets are $25 currently and will be $30 at the gate.
