The Pleasant Home Eagles bring back plenty of experience as the enter the third basketball season under the helm of 2003 PHS graduate Troy Turman.

“I’m feeling ok about the team at this point,” Turman said. “We got the football players back last week and we had a couple of really good days of practice. We are going to have some depth and experience this year.”

In his first year as head coach at Pleasant Home, the Eagles had a down season and some players left the team.

“In that first year, I was working with guys who weren’t used to what I wanted to do,” Turman said. “I ended up with three seniors and a handful of juniors. Well we had a down year and a lot of the juniors quit. Last year, I only had one senior and four juniors on the team so we were really young. Out of those four juniors, only one had varsity experience.”

Turman said that the young Eagles did an outstanding job last year and it’s something he hopes to build on this season.

“That group of young kids had more wins then that team the year before,” Turman said. “This year, I have all of those juniors backs as seniors and I have seven juniors this year on the team. The difference in this group is that these juniors have been with me since ninth grade and they are completely bought into the system.”

That experience is something that Turman hopes he can count on.

“Overall, I really feel like our strengths will be our experience and our size. I could have five starters on the court that are about 6-feet-tall.”

The Eagles will begin the season on Nov. 12, when they travel to Red Level to take on the Tigers.

The contest will just be between varsity teams.

The varsity girls’ game begins at 5:30 p.m., and the varsity boys’ game following the girls.
