One day into the Team USA 16U trials in Colorado, Pleasant Home’s River Baldwin is already turning heads.

Baldwin was among 35 girls from across the country invited for a chance to make it onto Team USA, although there are 106 other players who applied vie for spots on the 12-player roster.

Chris Hansen, managing editor for ProspectsNation.com, was on hand Thursday to watch the first day of the trials.

Hansen is also on the McDonald’s All-American Selection committee and on the Naismith Trophy POY committee.

After seeing Thursday’s action, Hansen took to Twitter to say a little about what he say.

“Short day at #USAWU16 Trials but some players don’t take long to stand out,” Hansen said on his Twitter account. “Cameron Brink, Jordan Hortson, River Baldwin and Treasure Hunt.”

After three days of trials, the number of players will be cut to 15-18 players.

If Baldwin makes the first cut, she will remain in Colorado Springs to train for the FIBA Americas U16 Championship in Buenos Aires, Argentina, held June 7-11.

The final foster will be announced June 4, just before departure.
