PLEASANT HOME SET TO SOAR: Eagles ready to prove they are a contender

Pleasant Home knows they have their work cut out for them this Friday night when they travel to Brantley to take on the No. 3-ranked Bulldogs (2-0, 1-0), but the Eagles (1-1, 0-1) won’t be backing down from the challenge.

Brantley enters the Class 1A, Region 2 clash as No. 3 in the class rankings after winning their first two games of the season.

In week one, Brantley beat Straughn 52-7 and then beat Kinston 55-8 last week.

The Eagles are coming off a tough double-overtime loss to area rival McKenzie last week, but opened up the year with convincing victory over Fruitdale.

Against McKenzie, Pleasant Home fell behind to start the contest, but rallied for a late lead in the fourth quarter.

McKenzie managed to tie the game in the final seconds of regulation, and were able to pull off a win in the double-overtime thriller.

Brantley holds a 16-1 record over Pleasant Home and has won the past 15 straight games between the two schools.

This is the second region match of the season for both squads.

Brantley enters the game with 1-0 region record and Pleasant Home sits at 0-1.

Coming into the the game, Brantley has scored 107 points and hold the No. 3 spot in scoring average in all classifications through the first three weeks of the season.

Brantley has only given up 15 points so far in 2017.

Pleasant Home as scored  73 points in the first two games and give up just 47.

All 47 points came in the double-overtime loss to McKenzie.

Pleasant Home and Brantley will kick off at 7 p.m., Friday in Brantley.
