The Straughn Tigers and the Red Level Tigers battled for a split in Tuesday night basketball action at Straughn High School

In the final game of the evening, Straughn held the lead for most of the contest, but a last-second 3-pointer from Preston Mitchell lifted Red Level to a 46-45 victory.

Straughn got the first bucket of the game before Kade Green knocked down a 3-pointer to give Red Level a lead.

Both teams continued to battle it out, but Straughn held a 15-13 heading into the second period.

Chance Russell got a pair of free throws to start the second to tie the game 15-15.

Then a couple of strong drives to lane from Straughn’s Justin Peeples had the Tigers back on top 21-15.

At halftime, Straughn was on top 31-26.

Joel Phillips made a big shot for Red Level midway through the third period to cut the Straughn lead down to 35-33, but Peeples helped Straughn to a 37-34 lead heading into the final period.

After a Red Level bucket cut the score to 37-36, Straughn got a free throw from Brantley Kelley and a bucket from Trent Cleland to stretch the Straughn lead to 40-36.

Straughn’s Taylor Rhudy knocked down one free throw with 13.7 seconds left in the game to put Straughn up 45-43.

Red Level set up their offense and quickly began working the ball on the edges before swinging the rock out to Mitchell on the perimeter.

Mitchell caught the pass, fired up a shot and watched as the ball hit nothing but net as the buzzer sounded to give Red Level a 46-45 victory.

In the first game of the evening, the Straughn B-team stormed out front and coasted to a 39-3 victory over the Red Level Tigers.
