A committee has been formed for the planning of South Alabama Regional Airport’s 2018 air show, at which former Speaker of the House Seth Hammett will be the honoree.

“We want to honor one individual each year,” SARA director Jed Blackwell said. “This year, that will be Mr. Seth Hammett. He is excited about it, and has agreed to speak and to sky dive.”

Committee members include Blackwell; SARA board members Chuck Burgess, Mike Holloway, and Donald Barton; John Roberts; Joey Davis; Maggie Jones of the Andalusia Area Chamber of Commerce; Kelly Brandin of the Opp Area Chamber of Commerce; Lee Reaves; and Noel Warren.

The show, which will be called the Andalusia-Opp Air Show: Thunder Over Covington County, is set for Nov. 17, 2018, and Blackwell said he hopes to attract as many as 20,000 people to the community.

The Army Golden Knights will be among the performers.

This will be the first such event at SARA since 2010.
