RLHS Tigers fall in close battle

The Red Level Tigers grabbed a late lead, but the Kinston Bulldogs rallied in the bottom of the seventh to earn an 8-7 victory on Tuesday in Kinston.

Kinston took the lead in the bottom of the first inning when a pair of errors and single led to two Bulldog runs.

Chance Russell picked up a single to start the top of the second inning and quickly stole second base.

The next batter struck out, but the ball got away from the Kinston catcher.

The Red Level runner safely reached first and the play also allowed Russell to come around to score.

Kinston’s first batter in the bottom of the second reached on a walk, but Red Level pitcher Kade Green picked the runner off first for the first out.

A few batters later, the Tigers rolled a double play to end the inning.

Kinston tacked on another run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third inning to go up 3-1.

In the top of the fifth inning, the Tigers loaded up the bases with a walk, a hit batter and an error.

Green then drew a walk to drive in a run for Red Level.

Kinston got the run right back in the bottom of the fifth inning on a sacrifice bunt.

Down 5-2 going into the top of the seventh inning, the Tigers made a charge.

Cody Shepard and Braxton Lee reached on singles and then Shepard came around to score on an error.

Lee then scored on a single from Zavier Phillips to cut the Bulldog lead down 5-4.

Russell then tied the game with a two-out single and, Ethan Edson put the Tigers up 7-5 with a two-run single.

However, Kinston rallied with two-outs in the bottom of the seventh inning and scored two runs to pick up the 8-7 victory.
