A blind man who with his seeing eye dog was the victim of a hit and run in the Walmart parking lot Wednesday wants the driver to take responsibility for the accident.
Claire and Dirk Price had just parked in Walmart at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday when the driver of a white Cadillac Escalade starting pulling out of its spot.
“The car started pulling out and I was ahead of Dirk and turned around to see if he was coming,” Claire Price said. “When I saw the Escalade backing up without any sign of stopping, I started screaming frantically and by that time it was already too late.”
The Escalade hit Price on his left elbow and caught his seeing eye dog as well.
“I have pretty good balance,” Price said. “So I just got knocked a couple of feet to the right. My dog is still pretty shaken up, but other than that, he is OK.”
Price said that then the driver hesitated after the vehicle struck the victims and then sped away.
“I thought that since he hesitated, he was going to get out and see if I was OK,” Price said. “But he just turned a little and gassed it out of the parking lot.”
According to the police report that the couple filed, Sgt. Nick Ireland was able to get a picture of the subject leaving the store and also a picture of the vehicle, but no tag number.
Price said that they do not want money or revenge, they just want to make sure the man takes responsibility for his actions.
“If he has done this once, then he has probably done this several times,” Price said. “We just want the public’s help to identify the man so he can be held responsible.”
The current situation is still being investigated, but if anyone has any information on a white Cadillac Escalade please call the police department at 334-222-1155.
