St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, in cooperation with other churches, supporters and volunteers, will again provide a free meal to anyone who needs it or is alone this Thanksgiving Day, Thurs., Nov. 22.
Jan Morris, who organizes the project, said volunteers are preparing food for 500 people.
The holiday dinners served at Thanksgiving and Christmas were originally called ACORN dinners and organized by Josephine Mosdell. After her death, they were renamed Jo’s Community Dinners in her honor. As awareness of the dinner has grown, so has the number of meals.
Morris said anyone who wants to volunteer is welcome.
“Just show up on Thanksgiving morning, and we’ll put you to work,” she said.
Morris said those who need meals may dine-in, carry out or have the food delivered to them.
Meals will be served from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the Parish Hall, located at 1307 E. Three Notch St.
The only stipulation is that those who need their meals delivered call by Wed., Nov. 21. For more information, call 222-2487. Callers are asked to leave a message if no one answers.
Financial contributions toward this outreach can be mailed to P.O. Box 1002, Andalusia, AL 36502.
