Posey Givens’ love for Christmas is the inspiration for his Christmas drive by yard collection.

His wife, Maggie Givens, said that she gladly lets him buy Christmas decorations for the drive-by show.

“Every year I tell him you can buy one thing,” Givens said. “I have been saying that for 17 years, and this year I have already let him buy 25.”

She said that her husband’s love for Christmas is the reason behind everything.

“He absolutely loves Christmas,” Givens said. “We don’t have any kids at home, so we figured that we would decorate our yard for anyone that wants to drive by and see.”

Their yard is decorated with an eight-foot snowman, a 10-foot Santa, several lighted angels, sleighs and reindeer.

“Every time we go out, we always come back with something for the yard,” Givens said. “The neighbors have been generous with letting us use some of their decorations. Last year, Posey asked our neighbor if he could buy their light up angels and they wouldn’t sell them, but this year the neighbor came by the Pancake Breakfast and told me that we could use them this year.”

The couple has been working on their yard since the week before Thanksgiving.

“It takes about two weeks for Posey to set everything up,” Givens said. “Not to mention a full day to get all of the wiring in the yard for the decorations.”

With all of the lights and displays the Givens are looking at a hefty electricity bill in the month of December.

“We have so many lights and wires in the yard,” Givens said. “So our electricity bill is usually tripled for the month of December.”

Despite the work of getting everything organized, Givens said that doing it is her husband’s biggest joy in life.

“He just wants people to be entertained,” Givens said. “Especially for the kids that come by. He wants people to be amused, because this is his biggest joy in life.”

The Givens’ home is located at 12495 Timberlake Court.
