The 2019 “Meet the Tigers” will be held on Friday night at Bobby Dye Field.

The night will get started at 7 p.m., with a ring ceremony for state champion Joel Phillips.

Phillips won the AHSAA Class 1A-3A state championship in the 110-meter hurdles.

“Going in, we knew it was going to come down to the two of us,” Phillips said. “Me and this dude from Linden had been going back and forth all year. He would get a personal record one week and then I would get one the next week. Before the race started, he looked over at me and said, ‘I’m going to take the 110 and you can have the 300.’ I didn’t even acknowledge what he said. It rained the night before and the track was wet. I got down on my blocks, the gun fires and the first three hurdles we were neck and neck. About the fourth hurdle, he started to pull away from me. Something happened to him and he hit hurdles seven, eight and nine. I didn’t mess up at all. I was running the best race I had run all year. On the last hurdle, he landed awkwardly and stumbled. I ran my best race and ran through it.”

Phillips also signed a National Letter of Intent to continue his track career at the University of Alabama.

After recognizing Phillips, the Tigers will then introduce the junior varsity and varsity football players.

The Tigers will also introduce the youth football players.

Cheerleaders for all teams and the Red Level band will also be introduced.

There is no admission to the attend, but donations will be accepted at the gate.

There will be an alumni game for former Red Level football players to participate.

The alumni game will be a 7-on-7 format and will cost $25 to participate.

Red Level will begin the season on Aug. 30 will a road trip to take on Zion Chapel.

Red Level lost last year’s game to the Rebels 40-33.

Zion Chapel is 2-1 all-time against Red Level.
