Suspect in Samson murder dies of self-inflicted wound

Updated: On Sunday, February 17, 2019, the Montgomery County Alabama Sheriff’s Office received a tip from a citizen identifying the vehicle Chad Green was last seen driving.  Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputies located and pursued Green for a short distance on Interstate 65, and conducted a traffic stop near Southern Boulevard at approximately 4:54 PM.  During the traffic stop, Green suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 6:20 PM.

On Saturday, February 16, 2019, the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) responded to a firearm assault in Samson (Geneva County) at the request of Samson Police Chief James Hill.

At approximately 11:52 a.m., the Samson Police Department received reports of a firearm assault in the 500 block of Pullum St.  When officers arrived, they found Sarah Cooper, 33, of Samson, AL, suffering from what is believed to be a single gunshot wound. Cooper was transported to Wiregrass Medical Center in Geneva, and later died from her injuries.

James Chadwick Green, 45, of Samson fled the scene and his location is currently unknown.  Green was last seen driving a red 2017 Toyota truck, bearing Alabama license plate “CHAD1” in the area of Samson, AL, and is wanted for questioning in the death of Cooper.

James Chadwick Green is a white male, 6’02”, 180 lbs. with brown hair (balding) and Hazel eyes.  Green typically wears a goatee and a ball cap and is believed to be armed and dangerous.  Anyone with information on the location of Green or his vehicle, is asked to notify law enforcement at:
