Straughn’s varsity softball team celebrated the culmination of the 2011 season, and the past four years Tuesday night at its annual spring banquet.

The Lady Tigers finished their season at the Class 4A state tournament in Montgomery, and finished as the South Regional runner-up in Gulf Shores.

In the past four years, Straughn has compiled a 151-49-1 record; won the area championship three times in Class 3A and one time in Class 4A; were the regional champions in 2009 and 2010; and were state runner ups in 2008 and 2009.

Each player received a plaque with the team picture and accomplishments of 2011 printed on the inset.

Special awards were given to the players that excelled in different facets of the team.

Katy Messick received the Academic Award; Tiffany Taylor received the Belly Down Award; the defensive Most Valuable Player (MVP) award went to Kelli Wilcox, who wasn’t present because she is on a mission trip in Haiti, and the offensive MVP award went to Messick; the Batting Title went to Kaitlynn Wiggins, who batted a .469; and the Captain Awards went to Tori Bracewell, Messick and Taylor.

At the end of the banquet, SHS head softball coach Ray Wilson and assistant coach Candace Tucker received gifts from the players.
