Straughn senior Katy Messick posted 13 points on Monday night to help lead her team to a 45-28 victory over Red Level at the fourth annual Straughn Lady Tigers Thanksgiving Tournament.

“First of all, I thought Red Level played well,” SHS girls coach Scott Kinsaul said. “They were real good competition.”

Straughn held a 15-10 lead after the first quarter, and led 22-18 at half time over Red Level.

In the final two quarters of play, Straughn outscored Red Level 15-6 and 8-4 for the win. Straughn led 37-24 after the third quarter.

Junior Anjelica Bonham, and seniors Sierra Danford and Tiffany Taylor also had good nights in scoring for Straughn. Bonham scored seven points; and Danford and Taylor chipped in six points each.

Red Level’s Shelby Holley had eight points, Brandi Hendrix had seven and Kim Perdue had six.

Kinsaul said he thought the team played well in the last two quarters.

“I thought we played well in the second half,” he said. “Other than the first three minutes, we played well in the second half. Katy Messick made some big shots there for us.”
