New Brockton’s Brandon Farnon scored 16 points to help lead the Gamecocks to a 63-48 area win over Red Level Friday night.

Farnon hit three three-pointers in the first half, and one in the second half in the win.

With this loss, Red Level falls to 14-11 overall, and 4-4 in Class 2A, Area 2. New Brockton improves to 15-11, 6-2.

The Tigers trailed throughout the contest, and didn’t have any last-minute heroics as they did in their first area contest against the Gamecocks. Red Level beat New Brockton 75-71 in double overtime on Jan. 13.

Red Level got many open looks and had several opportunities to make easy buckets, but they didn’t go in, Tigers coach Allen Catrett said.

“We had a lot of missed lay ups, and a few around the basket that you’ve got to finish off,” Catrett said. “It took us out of it. It’s hard to get yourself out of the hole. You’ve got to capitalize with those shots.”

Red Level was outscored 14-13 in the first period at the start of Friday night’s contest. The Tigers were then outscored 15-12 in the second period and trailed 29-25 at half time.

Red Level was 9-of-17 from the free-throw line, and New Brockton was 14-of-18 from the line.

Troy Nolen led the Tigers with 18 points. James Feagin had eight points, Preston Ryce had seven points and Nick Dorsey had six points.

In the third period, the Tigers came out of the locker room and outscored the Gamecocks 15-13.

More than mid-way through the third period, New Brockton’s Coy Green hit two lay ups back-to-back to help his team take a 38-31 lead over the Tigers.

However, Red Level would make some mid-range jumpers to bring the Gamecock’s lead to within two points.

Farnon hit his last three-pointer of the night at the beginning of the fourth period, and Red Level couldn’t recover.

“He got some good looks,” Catrett said about Farnon. “He had some with a hand in his face.”

Joshua Milsap also led New Brockton with 15 points, and Ke-undra Edwards had 14 points.

In varsity girls action, the Lady Tigers lost 43-41 on a fourth period rally by the Lady Gamecocks. The Lady Gamecocks trailed 17-10 at half time and 26-18 after the third period.

New Brockton’s girls outscored Red Level 25-15 in the fourth period.

Kiaira Coleman led Red Level with 13 points. Adrianna Stewart had nine points, and Courtney Douglas contributed with eight points.

Kayla Purvis led New Brockton with 19 points.

Red Level will travel to play Florala and Straughn next Monday and Tuesday nights, respectively.

Senior night for the Tigers will be Fri., Feb. 4 against McKenzie.
